Serbus, the provider of secure Critical National Infrastructure (CNI) networking and communications solutions has acquired Westica Communications Limited (Westica), for an undisclosed sum. Westica are deep technical specialists in the design, deployment and support of microwave and UHF/VHF radio networks, critical communications systems, cyber-secure networking, and infrastructure solutions.
The UK's commitment to ubiquitous high-speed connectivity is challenged by vast tracts of rural geography and the need to connect critical infrastructure far from metropolitan fibre optic routes. For Utilities and Wireless Internet Service Providers (WISPs), the prohibitive cost and logistical difficulty of trenching fibre across fields, waterways, or mountainous terrain often stall vital projects.
We are hosting another of Westica and RAD’s one day customer events where we bring our customers and industry together to share experiences, discuss challenges and learn from each other what is going on in the Utilities sector. The event is aimed at Power, Water and Gas Utility organisations, Network Operators, critical infrastructure users and those interested, responsible for or involved in cyber security and IoT Networks.
The latest Westica MBR10000 1.4GHz Microwave System now has 256QAM. This gives over 22Mbit/s of capacity in the narrow channels specified in this band. The system is ideally suited for applications in Utilities, emergency service and Oil and Gas networks, where long range, immunity from atmospheric conditions and reliable operation are key requirements. The MBR10000 builds on Westica's 20 years of experience in this band and provides both TDM and IP interfaces to provide a seemless transition from legacy networks to the latest networking technology.
Westica and its partner Intracom Telecom have again increased the capacity of the class leading OmniBAS high capacity native IP radio. This product now offers up to 1Gbit/s of Ethernet traffic on a single channel using 4096QAM technology.
